I don't have a pet. I live at home and cannot have one. But, when I start my teaching career, I hope to move into a house or apartment that will allow me to have pets. I volunteer with a shelter to socialize animals, scoop kitty poop, walk dogs, and find the animals loving homes. Pets are friends for life, and I hope everyone realizes this. There are many pets that come into the shelter that were given away because the owner was moving, they were allergic (simple allergy scratch test would have sufficed),or because they were having a baby. Please, if you love pets, help educate people not only about the responsibility of pets, but about how toxoplasmosis is only a reality when it comes to having a cat and being pregnant when the owner is in fact irresponsible, and allows toxoplasmosis to occur by not scooping cat pee for over a week!
Sorry to ramble, but after seeing so many cats come into the shelter because of owners giving poor excuses, it is very heartbreaking and frustrating.
